Floated as a way for the continent’s biggest sides, like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, Man United, and Chelsea, to fill the financial hole created by coronavirus, the league proposal was a direct challenge to UEFA, who had already made huge concessions in the Champions League. Thankfully, fans, the Premier League, La Liga, and UEFA have managed to shout down the idea for now, but where there’s cash to be had, football club owners are difficult to fight off.
