Capping off the 2021 TYR Pro Series at Mission Viejo was the 100m freestyle, which featured Abbey Weitzeil touching first in a women’s A final that featured five U.S. National Team members. Weitzeil’s 53.68 swim is a new top time in the world this year, besting the previous mark of 53.94, which she set in the preliminary swim. Katie Ledecky (54.22) and Olivia Smoliga (54.61) finished second and third respectively.
“I’m really happy with it,” Weitzeil said. “Coming out here yesterday morning, it felt kind of hard. I’m pretty tired but I’m just working on dropping times every time I swim so I’m pretty pleased with the meet.”
