Big Engine Start-Up - 16-Litre Fiat 130 HP GP ex-Felice Nazzaro - Auto e Moto d'Epoca Padova 2021

The incredible 1907 Fiat 130 HP Grand Prix, cars bearing the initials F2, ex-official Felice Nazzaro, made an appearance again at the 2021 edition of the Padua Auto e Moto d'Epoca 2021 Expo. Belonging to the National Automobile Museum based in Turin Thanks to the skilled hands of Gianni Torelli of the "Il Restauro" workshop has finally returned to its former glory. The Fiat 130Hp project was entrusted to Engineer Giovanni Enrico (who had previously worked on the 100Hp model of 1905), who avails himself of the help of engineers Carlo Cavalli and Guido Fornaca. Conceived to compete in the 1907 French Grand Prix, thanks to a change in the regulation that became more permissive towards cars equipped with larger engines, it saw a maximum of 30 litres per 100 km, the only and only limit. Thus was born the Fiat equipped with the 16-litre 4-cylinder engine and a single carburettor (each piston weighs about 4.5 kilograms) capable of developing 130hp at 1,600 rpm. The engine with highly innovative technical features has a larger bore than the stroke, overhead valves, hemispherical combustion chambers and centrally positioned spark plugs. Other technical features include a wheelbase of 2.85 meters, a length of 3.06 meters and a weight of 1.025 kg. The career in competitions demonstrates the project's validity with the victory at the 1907 Targa Florio thanks to Felice Nazzaro and the second place, with a similar car, of Vincenzo Lancia. Nazzaro will subsequently win the Kaiserpreis race at the Taunus circuit in Germany. The most important victory remains that of the French Grand Prix in Dieppe in the same year. The Fiat team includes drivers Luis Wagner, Felice Nazzaro and Vincenzo Lancia. After being in command of the race in the early laps, Wagner had to retire due to a mechanical failure; Lancia takes command of the race. Still, unfortunately, an engine failure forces him to stop. Nazzaro's F2, the last of the three remaining in the competition, will be the one that will climb the top step of the podium.

L'incredibile Fiat 130 HP Grand Prix del 1907, vetture recante sigla F2, ex ufficiale Felice Nazzaro, ha fatto nuovamente apparizione pubblica, all'edizione 2021 di Auto e Moto d'Epoca a Padova con alcune formidabili accensioni. Appartenente al Museo Nazionale dell'Automobile con sede a Torino, passata tra le abili mani di Gianni Torelli dell'Officina "Il Restauro", è finalmente tornata all'antico splendore. Il progetto della Fiat 130Hp viene affidato all’Ingegner Giovanni Enrico (precedentemente aveva lavorato sul modello da 100 Hp del 1905) che si avvale dell’aiuto degli ingegneri Carlo Cavalli e Guido Fornaca. Concepita per gareggiare nel Gran Premio di Francia del 1907, grazie ad una modifica del regolamento divenuto più permissivo nei confronti delle vetture equipaggiate con motori di maggiori dimensioni, vedeva sotto l'aspetto del consumo, un massimo di 30 litri per 100 km il solo ed unico limite. Nasce così la Fiat equipaggiata con il motore 4 cilindri da 16 litri e un solo carburatore (ogni pistone pesa circa 4,5 chilogrammi) in grado di sviluppare 130cv a 1.600 giri/min. Il propulsore dalle caratteristiche tecniche molto innovative ha un alesaggio maggiore della corsa, valvole in testa, camere di combustione emisferiche e candele posizionate centralmente. Altre caratteristiche tecniche includono un passo di 2,85 metri, una lunghezza di 3,06 metri e un peso di 1,025 kg. La carriera nelle competizioni dimostra la validità del progetto con la vittoria alla Targa Florio nel 1907 grazie a Felice Nazzaro e il secondo posto, con analogo esemplare, di Vincenzo Lancia. Nazzaro vincerà successivamente la gara Kaiserpreis sul circuito di Taunus in Germania. La vittoria più importante resta quella del Gran Premio di Francia a Dieppe nello stesso anno. Il team Fiat comprende i piloti Luis Wagner, Felice Nazzaro e Vincenzo Lancia. Dopo essere stato al comando della gara nei primi giri, Wagner ha dovuto ritirarsi a causa di un guasto meccanico, Lancia prende il comando della gara ma purtroppo un guasto al motore lo costringe a fermarsi. La F2 di Nazzaro, l'ultimo esemplare dei tre rimasto in competizione sarà quello che salirà sul gradino più alto del podio.
