The 2002 Men's World Volleyball Championship was the 15th tournament of national teams, the final part of which was held from September 28 to October 13, 2002 in 6 cities of Argentina with the participation of 24 teams.

Argentina was the host of the world championship for the second time - the world's strongest teams played here for the first time in 1982. The Brazilian national team, which lost to the USSR team in the final of the X World Championship in the Luna Park sports palace in Buenos Aires, 20 years later in the same hall took revenge on its successor, the Russian national team. On the way to the first world title in history, the Brazilians also beat other strongest teams of the late 20th and early 21st centuries: in the quarterfinals - the winner of the three previous world championships, the Italian team, and in the semifinals - the Olympic champions of Sydney 2000 and the European champions volleyball players of Yugoslavia.

The French team also achieved the highest achievement in its history, becoming the bronze medalist of the championship. The owner of the most prestigious individual awards - the most valuable and most effective player - was the captain of the Argentina national team, Marcos Milinkovic.

More than 330,000 spectators attended the 72 matches of the World Cup finals.
