Brutus Monster! 47-litre I V12 I 750Hp - BMW Aeroplane Engine Start-Up - Auto & Moto d'Epoca Padova

The incredible Brutus, with its gigantic 47-litre 12-cylinder BMW engine of aeronautical derivation and capable of developing 750Hp at 1,700rpm, is undoubtedly the most admired car at the 2022 Auto & Moto d'Epoca exhibition in Padua. The Technical Museum in Sinsheim, Germany, gave us a pleasant surprise, bringing it here and setting it in motion for the public. We are talking about a vehicle dating back to the 1920s built on an American La France chassis and taken from a 1907-1908 car initially equipped with a 14-litre engine. The front and rear axles, gearbox and clutch are also taken directly from that car. Traction is guaranteed by a pair of chains that move the rear wheels, and even the brakes act only on these. Returning to the engine is a 12-cylinder BMW VI with a 60° V built-in 1917/1918. It was aeronautical and was used on models such as the Dornier Whale DO-17, the Focke-Wulf A-29, the Heinkel HE-111 and the HE-70. Many of these were bombers. An engine of this kind allows the car to reach 200 km/h, and I can only imagine the madness of all this despite having had a little taste of it with the booming start. I cannot describe the deafening power at times, but you can see the flames that come out of the manifolds; some even reach the exhaust's end. I hope one day to see it run on some circuit; it must be a memorable experience. Enjoy! ????

L'incredibile Brutus con il suo gigantesco motore BMW da 47 litri a 12 Cilindri di derivazione aeronautica e capace di sviluppare ben 750Hp a 1.700giri/min è sicuramente la vettura più ammirata dell'esposizione Auto e Moto d'epoca 2022 a Padova. Che bella sorpresa ci ha fatto il museo della Tecnica di Sinsheim, in Germania, portandola qui e mettendola in moto per il pubblico. Stiamo parlando di un veicolo risalente agli anni 20 costruito su un telaio di provenienza American La France e prelevato da una vettura del 1907-1908 originariamente equipaggiata con un motore da 14 Litri di cilindrata. Anche gli assali anteriore e posteriore, il cambio e la frizione sono prelevati direttamente da quella vettura. La trazione viene garantita da un paio di catene che muovono le ruote posteriori ed anche i freni agiscono solo su queste. Tornando al motore, si tratta di un BMW VI a 12 cilindri con V a 60° costruito negli anni 1917/1918. Il suo utilizzo era aeronautico e fu impiegato su modelli quali il Dornier Whale DO-17, il Focke-Wulf A-29, l'Heinkel HE-111 e l'HE-70. Molti di questi erano bombardieri. Un propulsore del genere permette alla vettura di raggiungere i 200 Km/h e posso solo immaginare la pazzia di tutto questo pur avendone avuto un piccolo assaggio con la messa in moto fragorosa. Non posso descrivervi la potenza a tratti assordante ma quello che ben si vede sono le fiamme che escono dai collettori ed alcune di queste riescono a raggiungere perfino la parte terminale dello scarico. Spero un giorno di vederla in funzione su qualche circuito, deve essere un'esperienza memorabile. Buona visione! ????
