WWE Backlash 2020 is officially in the history books, and whilst the show had ups and downs, it's a night Edge won't want to remember for more reasons than one.
Not only did the WWE Hall of Famer lose the Greatest Wrestling Match Ever to Randy Orton, but as reported by Fightful, he also suffered an injury that has threatened to end his career once again.
According to their report, it's likely that the Candian suffered a torn tricep during the lengthy main event, which, if true, will have major future ramifications, including many to speculating that this has led to a secret retirement after a career ending injury at WWE Backlash.
In the video, we'll look at what another injury for the 46-year-old means, for Edge, the company, and the fans.
So first we need to look at what happened. Meeting Orton in the main event, the match was certainly brutal enough, and there's no shortage of times where Edge may have torn his tricep.
As he laid on the mat after the match, emotional with his defeat, his right arm is noticeably bruised, something that fans online were quick to spot.
Unlike their prior encounter at WrestleMania, there weren't any weapons used, meaning its harder to tell just when exactly the injury happened, but all we know for sure is that things aren't looking good.
And though we don't know what move caused the injury, Dave Meltzer is reporting that the torn Tricep took place during the second set of tapings for the match, which explains why he was able to go through the vast majority of the match, unaffected.
Nevertheless, this injury is the last thing Edge, or WWE needs right now, as the future of his return to the ring is in grave jeopardy.
The question everyone's lips right now is simple: Is Edge retired?
Older fans will remember Edge shockingly having the hang up his boots nine years ago following WrestleMania 27, and whilst plenty of stars have come back from a torn tricep, few, if any, came back from the injury almost a decade after they were told they were finished.
Whilst there's a possibility that this injury could mark the end fo Edge's emotional return to WWE, it's also possible that he could be allowed to return, and choose to walk away.
With his wife and fellow Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix, the pair have two daughters, and whilst this injury may have not guaranteed a second retirement, Edge may not want to risk something like this happening again.
Like every Superstar who enters the ring, Edge puts his life at risk every time he competes, but few stars have had the series of injuries the Rated-R Superstar has had, and if this latest injury, mere months after his return to the ring has shook his confidence, retiring again may be the right thing to do.
Of course, there's the other argument, that Edge has worked for 9 years to get back in the ring and whether this injury has rocked the mindset of the eleven-time former WWE World Champion, that's something only Edge knows for sure.
Given the nature of a torn tricep, most wrestlers take on average 8 months to come back from them, which will have some major ramifications for the entire WWE.
With Edge on the shelf, fans can say goodbye to a potential rubber match between the Rated-R Superstar and Orton at Summerslam, a match that Vince McMahon has seemingly been hellbent on hosting in from of a crowd, and only moved the Greatest Wrestling Match ever to Backlash, as reports have suggested that the company won't be hosting the biggest party of the Summer in the TD Garden with the WWE Universe present.
Losing Edge is more than just one match being nixed though, as the Ultimate Opportunist is just the latest big name to vanish from the company in 2020.
A pectoral tear has led to Elias being on the shelf as well, and now with Edge gone, it's clear the company is struggling with the stars they have left.
