F1 2017 Aero Rakes: What are these? Special video - Official test at the Circuit de Catalunya

I must admit that I had never seen "live" the use of Aero Rakes structures in Formula 1 and these things intrigued me enough to create a video! During the first hours of the morning and before the closing of the tests, each F1 Team mounted a metal grid formed from "Kiel probe sensor", a system that measures the pressure and temperature in the fluid dynamics. In this specific case it's adopted to check the air flow on the car and gather with the wind data gallery to determine whether the aerodynamic studies are confirmed in practice. These data also allow engineers to improve performance and make changes to the cars. The grids are usually positioned behind the front wheels and to the rear wings with the aim to verify how the air flow moves at the rear wings part. These data will be in addition to those that each team have accumulated during testing the winter wind tunnel tests and theoretically should give confirmation of what theu have studied in the past months. Watching the cars, they seems to have the braces! :-D

Devo ammettere che non avevo mai visto dal vivo l'utilizzo delle strutture Aero Rakes in Formula 1 e questa cosa mi ha incuriosito molto, tanto da realizzare un apposito video. Durante le primissime ore della mattina e prima della chiusura dei test, ogni Team di F1 ha montato un reticolo metallico formato da "Kiel probe sensor", sistema che misura la pressione e la temperatura nella fluido dinamica. In questo caso specifico vengono adottati per verificare il flusso dell'aria sulla vettura e si raccolgono dati che servono a verificare se gli studi aerodinamici svolti nella reealizzazione della vettura trovano conferma a livello pratico. Questi dati consentono inoltre ai tecnici di apportare modifiche alle monoposto per incrementarne le prestazioni. I reticolati solitamente sono posizionati a ridosso delle ruote anteriori e nella parte posteriore per capire come si muove il flusso d'aria generato dagli alettoni. Questa mole di dati va ad integrare quelli che ogni team ha accumulato durante i test nella galleria del vento e teoricamente dovrebbero dare conferma di quanto si era studiato nei mesi precedenti a livello di fluidodinamica per ogni vettura.
