Brasilia, Brazil, June 29, 2019 - After a bad start in week 5 of the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Nations League in Brasilia, France defeated Italy in a 3-1 match (27-25, 25-19, 21-25, 25-20) and qualified for the Final Six. The French squad reached its tenth victory in this competition. Laurent Tillie, France's coach was happy with the achievment of his squad, but also knew that the Italians were a yourger team, with less experience.
France Coach Laurent Tillie: "Today the level was different. Yesterday we played with Brazil, which is right now the best team in the world. Italy is a younger team, with less experience than us. I believe our victory was because of our experience. We will have another difficult game tomorrow, and then, a few days of rest. Aftewards we will start the preparation for the Finals."
France Captain Benjamin Toniutti: "Yesterday we had problems with our spiking, we commited many mistakes. Today we played better, and we managed well most of the match. In the third set we lost our concentration a bit and they came back, but in the end we qualified for the Finals."
Italy Coach Gianlorenzo Blengini - "France played better than us. We missed some opportunities in the second set, and we did not have constancy in serves and side-out. We need to play at our best when we face a team like France. We are here with a young team with less experience, but they need to go through that kind of situation to grow."
