Gilles Villeneuve's Ferrari 312 T5 (1980) - Warm-Up, Track & Flat V12 Sound - Minardi Day 2023 Imola

The 1980 Formula 1 Ferrari 312 T5 ex Gilles Villeneuve. My heart sank; I didn't know what to add. Personally, this was the best gift of the 2023 edition of the Historic Minardi Day, which took place at the Imola circuit on the last weekend of August. Although a sticker covered the chassis number, I'm sure this model is chassis 048, the last of the six examples built. It is, therefore, the one that Gilles crashed with when he went outside the track on this circuit in the 1980 Grand Prix, fortunately without consequences. Since then, that stretch of circuit has taken the name of "Villeneuve Curves". For the rest, although beautiful in my eyes, it remains a historically uncompetitive car with only 8 points scored in its racing season. It is essentially an evolution of the previous 312 T4, which, however, given the disappointing results, was marginally improved because all the efforts had already been used for the following year's car, the 126 CK. The lack of ground effect, a too-bulky engine and a chassis not up to the competition's standards were the critical points of the single-seater. On a mechanical level, it adopts the Type 015 engine, a 3.0-litre naturally aspirated 12-cylinder "flat" engine moved by a 5-speed transversal gearbox. With light alloy monocoque and aluminium panels, the car weighs just under 600 kg. We thank the German Modena Motorsport team for bringing it to the track to the delight of all the fans.

La Ferrari 312 T5 di formula 1 del 1980 ex Gilles Villeneuve. Un tuffo al cuore, non so cosa aggiungere. Personalmente questo è stato il regalo più bello dell'edizione 2023 dell'Historic Minardi Day svoltosi sul circuito di Imola l'ultimo weekend di Agosto. Nonostante il numero di telaio risultasse coperto da un'adesivo, sono abbastanza sicuro che questo modello sia lo chassis 048, l'ultimo prodotto dei sei esemplari costruiti. Si tratta dunque di quello con cui Gilles è andato a sbattere uscendo di pista proprio in questo circuito nel Gran Premio del 1980, fortunatamente senza conseguenze. Da allora quel tratto di pista ha preso il nome di "Curva Villeneuve". Per il resto, pur bellissima ai miei occhi, resta una vettura storicamente poco competitiva con solo 8 punti conquistati nella sua stagione di corse. Si tratta sostanzialmente di una evoluzione della precedente 312 T4 che però visti i risultati deludenti venne marginalmente migliorata perchè tutti gli sforzi erano già impiegati per l'auto dell'anno successivo la 126 CK. La carenza dell'effetto suolo, un motore troppo ingombrante ed un telaio non all'altezza delle concorrenti furono i punti critici della monoposto. A livello meccanico adotta il propulsore Tipo 015, un 12 cilindri aspirato "piatto" da 3.0-litri mosso da un cambio trasversale a 5 rapporti. Con una monoscocca in lega leggera e pannelli di alluminio la vettura pesa poco meno di 600 Kg.
