Hiroshima, Japan, October 9, 2019 – Alan Souza scored 15 points as Brazil downed Argentina 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 26-24) at the FIVB Men’s World Cup on Wednesday.

Brazil coach Renan Dal Zotto: "I’m happy to win the three points. We had a good rhythm in the first and second sets. We played well in all elements - service, reception, attack. They got better in the third set with their service. We were able to show the difference in the end with our service.

This is an important competition for the development of the team. We can make adjustments to the team. We are trying to establish the identity and character of the team. I played in the World Cup in 1979, 1983 and 1987 as a young player, so there are special memories of this tournament for me."

Brazil captain Bruno Rezende: "This tournament is important. Every point counts a lot. We respect Argentina. They have a young generation mixed with some veterans. We had an aggressive approach. We try to balance and give the ball to everybody. The U.S. is one of the best teams in the world. Tomorrow will be a big fight."

Argentina coach Marcelo Mendez: "Brazil always plays at a high level. In the first and second sets their service and attack level was good. We found our rhythm in the third set. Our service was good but we could not win. We want to develop players for next year and hope to win matches here.

Argentina captain Martin Ramos: "Brazil played well. We did not have our rhythm in the first and second sets. We found it in the third set but could not win. I’m happy we could refresh our minds in the third set. Their service was aggressive. They have a good reception line. When they get the ball in the hands of their setter, they play fast. Brazil has a high level of service and attack"
