Wroclaw, Poland, August 3, 2019 - Thailand set forth hard conditions in the match against the hosts, who eventually prevailed in the hard-fought five-setter 3-2 (25-23, 22-25, 26-28, 25-23, 15-11). This means that Sunday's battle for Tokyo 2020 will take place between Serbia and Poland.
Danai Sriwacharamaytakul (Thailand head coach): "I have to thank all of my players, because they fought really hard in this game. During the match some mistakes happened, but we tried to eliminate them to fix all problems on court. It was a great game and a very valuable experience for our team to play against Poland here. We hope that tomorrow we will keep this level of play."
Nootsara Tomkom (Thailand captain): "It was a really tough match. Poland play at home and we knew that they are very strong and tall team, which makes it very difficult to play against them. We faced them already twice this year, losing both matchups and today we just played our game. I'm so happy that we can see so many Thai people, who came here to support us and I would like to thank them. I hope that tomorrow we can play even better than today."
Jacek Nawrocki (Poland head coach): "I'm very happy that my girls bounced back from such a difficult encounter. They fought putting their whole hearts into the game. Even if this match had ended differently, I couldn't say a bad word to my players. We had almost 40% efficiency in attack, we played a bit worse in defense. If it's about block, usually you don't block Thailand, you work in defense. In the second set we made a few mistakes in this element, but the rest of the game was a hard battle. Thailand are a team who can win with Brazil and who gave some trouble to USA, so I'm happy that girls claimed a win today."
Agnieszka Kakolewska (Poland captain): "Victory after such a tough battle tastes very well. It's hard to say anything about this game, because so many things happened on the court and there were many long and hard rallies. Like I said yesterday, it's only theory that yesterday we played against the weakest team. This is volleyball, women's volleyball, so anything can happen. Thailand played an amazing game today. There are some elements which we have to improve before the next match, we are aware of that, but Thailand played great in defense, so we can only congratulate them on it."
