Lola T92/10 Group C - EPIC V10 N/A Judd Engine Sound, Warm-Up - Action at Paul Ricard & Goodwood FOS

This 1992 Lola T92/10 Group C chassis HU01 driven by Peter Garrod is one of three built, and I had the pleasure of filming it at Paul Ricard Circuit, Le Castellet, France. The car took part in the revival championship race dedicated to the glorious Group C prototypes organized by Peter Auto. Also known as Lola 981, the car raced with Charles Zwolsman's Dutch Euroracing team, who later bought the second car, chassis HU02. In fact, he became the first customer of this group C and one of the few private teams to face official manufacturers such as Peugeot, Toyota and Mazda. Unfortunately, the cars proved to be unreliable with frequent breakage of the gearbox and consequent withdrawals. The 1992 season ended with a fifth place in the championship. Designed by Wiet Huidekoper for development, a lot of time was spent in the wind tunnel, and the result was a body created to generate enormous downforce. The mechanical part sees the Judd GV10 engine; a 3.5-litre naturally aspirated V10 with aluminium head and block, 4 valves per cylinder, capable of developing 650hp and coupled to a 6-speed Lola manual gearbox. The bodywork is in carbon fibre while the frame is a monocoque mixed with aluminium and composite materials. The braking system is made up of carbon-ceramic discs produced by AP Racing. Other features see a 100-litre fuel tank and a total weight of 770Kg. Although the racing past has not been the best, it's a real pleasure to hear this extraordinary naturally aspirated V10 engine scream again. This was the beautiful era of Group C cars!

Questa Lola T92/10 Grouppo C telaio HU01 pilotata da Peter Garrod è una delle tre costruite ed ho avuto il piacere di filmarla sulla pista del Paul Ricard a Le Castellet, in Francia. La vettura ha preso parte alla gara del campionato revival dedicato ai gloriosi prototipi Gruppo C organizzata da Peter Auto. Conosciuta anche come Lola 981 la vettura ha gareggiato all'epoca con il team olandese Euroracing di Charles Zwolsman che successivamente acquistò anche la seconda auto, telaio HU02. Di fatto diventò il primo cliente di questa gruppo C ed uno dei pochi privati a fronteggiare le case ufficiali come Peugeot, Toyota e Mazda. Purtroppo le auto si rivelarono poco affidabili con frequenti rotture del cambio e conseguenti ritiri. La stagione 1992 si chiuse con un quinto posto in campionato. Progettata da Wiet Huidekoper per lo sviluppo si trascorse molto tempo nella galleria del vento ed il risultato fu una carrozzeria progettata per generare un'enorme downforce. La parte meccanica vede la presenza del motore Judd GV10, un V10 da 3.5-Litri aspirato con testa e blocco in alluminio, 4 valvole per cilindro, capace di sviluppare 650cv ed accoppiato ad un cambio manuale Lola a 6 rapporti. La carrozzeria è in fibra d carbonio mentre il telaio è un monoscocca misto alluminio e materiali compositi. L'impianto frenante è formato da dischi carbo-ceramici prodotti da AP Racing. Altre caratteristiche vedono un serbatoio da 100 litri ed un peso complessivo di 770Kg. Nonostante il passato agonistico non sia stato dei migliori è una vera goduria poter sentire nuovamente urlare questo straordinario motore V10 aspirato. Queste era la bella epoca delle vetture Gruppo C!
