This year’s Most Valuable Hockey Family winner, Chris, happens to be a talented hockey player and coach himself. His love and dedication to the game as a player has allowed him as a coach to work with hundreds of happy hockey players in Homer, Alaska, and have led to multiple state championships
Additionally, he is a role model to all of the athletes he coaches, stressing that doing your best at school and good citizenship are just as important as winning. He hosts study nights at his home for players, on his own time to emphasize the players’ development on and off the ice.
While coaching his daughter’s hockey team, Chris realized he could use support. He met Joanna, who become a coach with him. Joanna, also a talented hockey player, is an admired role model to the girls of the team, showing them not only how far they can go in hockey, but also in life. Chris and Joanna got married in October 2020, after years of coaching together.
The couple are an integral part of the glue that holds their Homer hockey community together, and we couldn’t be more excited to call them our Most Valuable Hockey Family this year!
