Communication is an important skill that all officials must develop to be successful while managing games. Whether speaking with players, coaches or teammate officials on the ice, good communication is how referees and linesmen share their expectations. But what are the expectations from the coaches? How can referees build better rapport with coaches to help manage their teams? And how can both sides de-escalate if things take a bad turn?
