Joe's back again on We Need To Talk to discuss the only thing worth talking about this week - Newcastle United's takeover!
Mike Ashley has finally sold the club and for most of the Toon Army the shackles have been lifted after what has been a dire time supporting their side. Ashley has sold Newcastle to the Public Investment Fund, PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media - essentially meaning they're backed by Saudi Arabia's colossal amount of money. Yasir Al-Rumayyan will be the non-executive chairman alongside Amanda Staveley and Jamie Reuben who will also be on the board.
The problem that the larger footballing community have with the deal is the murky background of it all. Although the Premier League have explicitly said that the ownership of The Magpies won't be state funded by the KSA, the Public Investment Fund is chaired by Mohammad bin Salman - so all eyes will be on this takeover for years to come. Given that the net worth of the PIF is around £320bn, it could be an exciting time for the Geordies on Tyneside.
