Remembering Harry Gallatin

He was one of the greatest New York Knicks of all time. An NBA pioneer and original iron man. He was Harry "The Horse" Gallatin, the basketball Hall of Famer who died Wednesday morning at his home in Illinois at age 88. Playing 9 seasons for the Knicks from 1948 to 1957, Gallatin averaged a double-double for his career averaging 13 points and 11 rebounds a game. Gallatin a seven-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA selection had a streak of 610 consecutive games play -- a Knicks record that he still holds.
He led the league in total rebounds in 1954 and still ranks fourth on the Knicks' all-time rebounding list; his 33-rebound game in 1953 remains the highest in club history. Gallatin was a member of the Knicks' three straight Eastern Division championship teams in 1951, 1952, and 1953. Following his playing days Gallatin became an NBA coach, winning Coach of the Year honors with the St. Louis Hawks in 1962.
