Rod Millen's Toyota Celica GT 4WD Turbo "Pikes Peak" - 850hp Hillclimb Monster at Goodwood FOS

This is the Rod Millen's Toyota Celica GT 4WD Turbo 850hp Hillclimb Moster in action at the latest Goodwood Festival of Speed (Fos). The car in 1994 set the record at the Pikes Peak Hill Climb race scoring the time of 10:04:06 along the 156 curves/bends and the total 20km of the route. This record has lasted for 13 years, beaten only on July 21, 2007, by Nobuhiro Tajima at the helm of Suzuki XL7 Hill Climb Special who scored a time 10:01.408, it must be said however that in the meantime part of the route was paved and it was not entirely unpaved like the one Millen raced. The car, only in the form takes the Toyota Celica GT 4WD of the 90s because the body made of carbon fibre hides a prototype composed of chrome-moly steel tube frame chassis and powered by a 4-cylinder TRD engine of 2,100cc capable of developing 850hp. With a weight of only 885kg, the power weight ratio is crazy, practically 1/1 and the grip is guaranteed by the four-wheel drive and the huge air extractor and aerodynamic study & wings, Other technical specifications can be found in the video and you can see the highlights with the best car performances throughout the weekend.

Questa è la mostruosa Toyota Celica GT 4WD Turbo di Rod Millen, vettura con cui nel 1994 ha stabilito il record alla corsa in salita Pikes Peak segnando il tempo di 10:04:06 percorrendo le 156 curve/tornanti ed i 20km totali del percorso. Questo primato ha resistito per ben 13 anni, battuto solo il 21 Luglio 2007 da Nobuhiro Tajima alla guida della Suzuki XL7 Hill Climb Special che ha segnato un tempo 10:01.408, c'è da dire però che nel frattempo parte del percorso è stato asfaltato e non era interamente sterrato come quello che affrontò Millen. La vettura, solo nella forma riprende la Toyota Celica GT 4WD degli anni 90 poichè la carrozzeria realizzata in fibra di carbonio nasconde un prototipo composto da telaio tubolare mosso da un motore TRD 4 cilindri da 2.100cc capace di sviluppare 850cv. Con un peso di soli 885kg il rapporto peso potenza è pazzesco, praticamente 1/1 ed il grip è garantito dalla trazione integrale e dall'enorme estrattore d'aria e cura aerodinamica riposta nella vettura.
