How I feel about weird gimmicky drills and exercises for fight training. In short, I think they're not as effective as just basic traditional boxing drills. Do the standard stuff first and if you've mastered that to the point that you need an edge, fine, you can start doing different things that help. But honestly, I think these gimmicky exercises are getting more popular because of people liking to see and share "new" things in social media. Because a drill will be more appealing than just a fighter doing basic drills or crunches, right???
