Brazil is a volleyball-loving nation and their women's National Team is amongst the most decorated in the world, including four Olympic medals - though a world championship title still eludes them after finishing runners-up three times.
Brazil won the gold medal at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and did the same at London 2012 to become the third team, after the Soviet Union and Cuba, to successfully defend an Olympic title. The Brazilians also took Olympic bronze at Atlanta in 1996 and at Sydney 2000. They have won the South American Championship 20 times, including the last 10 times of asking. They also won the Grand Champions Cup in 2005 and 2013. Brazil stand at the top of the all-time medals table of the FIVB World Grand Prix, including their triumph in the very last edition of the competition in 2017.
After three successive podium appearances (silver in 2006 and 2010, and bronze in 2014), Brazil finished 7th at the 2018 FIVB World Championship when they failed to make it past their Round 3 pool.
Earlier last year, Brazil finished third in the Regular Season of the Volleyball Nations League, but fell to Final Six hosts China in the bronze medal match to rank fourth overall.
