When jewels like this raced in the 80s! - Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2 "Pikes Peak" - Rally Legend

Just thinking about it gives me the chills. In my opinion, the 80s were the pinnacle of the rally world, so much so that extraordinary cars such as the Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2 "Pikes Peak", an evolution of the well-known and very powerful Group B car. last edition of the RallyLegend in San Marino with the great Giorgio Mela at the wheel, an excellent driver who for many years has brought the other queen of the time, the Lancia Delta S4, into the race. Specifically, the car you see was built by the Dutch of Auto Sport Veghel, and it is a replica of the model with which, in 1987, the German driver Walter Röhrl smashed the record of the famous race that takes place in Colorado (USA). The work to make it was crazy based on over 1000 photographs of the original car found at the Audi in Ingolstadt and the measurements were also taken precisely to make it the same. It took two years of work to complete it. At the time, the 2.1-Liter 5-cylinder Turbo engine reached an incredible 750hp power to move a vehicle weight of just 1,000kg. Walter Röhrl was the first to go under the 11-minute barrier in the US race and the win world fame at Audi. Despite being a replica, seeing such a car at Rally Legend was also fantastic because the Italian driver drove it well, doing it justice.

Solo a pensarci vengono i brividi. Gli anni 80 sono stati a mio avviso l'apice del mondo dei rally, tanto da partotire auto straordinarie come l'Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2 "Pikes Peak", evoluzione della nota e potentissima vettura Gruppo B. La vettura che vedete ha partecipato all'ultima edizione del RallyLegend a San Marino con al volante il grande Giorgio Mela, pilota eccellente che da tanti anni porta in gara l'altra regina dell'epoca, la Lancia Delta S4. Nello specifico l'auto che vedere è stata costruiti dagli Olandesi di Auto Sport Veghel e si tratta di una replica del modello con cui nel 1987 il pilota tedesco Walter Röhrl ha polverizzato il record della famosa corsa che si svolge in Colorado (USA). Il lavoro per realizzarla è stato pazzesco basandosi su oltre 1000 fotografie dell'auto originale che si trova all'Audi di Ingolstadt ed anche le misure sono state prese in modo preciso per renderla esattamente uguale. Sono serviti 2 anni di lavoro per ultimarla. All'epoca il motore 5 cilindri Turbo da 2.1-Litri raggiunse un'incredibile potenza di 750hp per muovere un peso del veicolo di soli 1.000 Kg. Walter Röhrl fu il primo a scendere sotto il muro degli 11 minuti nella gara statunitense e la vittoria diede all'Audi una fama mondiale. Vedere un'auto del genere al Rally Legend, pur trattandosi di una replica, è stato fantastico anche perchè il pilota italiano l'ha guidata molto bene rendendogli giustizia.
